What Problems Dance Physio Can Help With?
Dani is one of our senior physios, with over 10 years experience. Dani completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Newcastle, finishing in 2011. Her primary love is pole dance, having trained pole for 10 years and taught for most of that time.
She also has personal and professional experience with dance (ballet), aerials (silks and lyra), partner acrobatics, gymnastics (especially rings), handstands, contortion and more!
Dani is currently studying a Masters of Performing Arts Medicine through UCL. She has completed many other courses, including with renowned dance physios Lisa Howell (The Ballet Blog) and Sue Mayes (Australian Ballet). She also has presented many lectures and courses here at Edgeworth, in dance studios, and online, including for dance teachers, dance students, and pole dancers and aerialists. Dani has an abundance of knowledge and skills that she is keen to use to help the dance community.
Pre-pointe screening and preparation is ideally started 3-6 months before your teacher is looking to place you en pointe. They are also useful as a check in before starting a full time dance program and when returning en pointe after an injury or break from training for any reason.
Students should expect a home exercise program, formulated to help them improve on any areas that they are struggling with. Students and parents should expect a minimum of 2 sessions before the student is cleared to go en pointe, but often 3+ sessions are required.
We aim to make the transition en pointe easier, safer, and less painful. Remember that going en pointe is not a normal body function, so we must be in peak condition, with great body awareness, to achieve it safely.
