Massage Therapy Edgeworth

What Is Massage Therapy?

Massage therapy is the practice of massaging or manipulating muscles and other soft tissue, with the aim of improving your overall health and wellbeing.

It is one of the oldest forms of healing and is a manual therapy performed in our practice by a qualified Massage Therapist. Our therapists apply varying degrees of pressure and different techniques to muscles to ease pain and tension. All of our massage therapists are highly skilled and can cater to individual needs in terms of area treated, pressure and style of massage.

MASSAGE SERVICES WE PROVIDE

Our massages are usually 1 hour long and are completed in one of our two private massage rooms. Feel free to chat to your therapist or relax to the sound of music.

Therapeutic Massage

What is a Therapeutic massage?

Therapeutic massage is an ideal method of relaxation to calm your mind and body. It is designed to both stimulate or sooth muscles in a calm and relaxing environment. At Edgeworth Physiotherapy, our massage therapists help mobilise soft tissue to improve circulatory and lymphatic function, as well as relieve stress.

Therapeutic massage can help in a variety of ways including improved general tissue health, stress management, chronic pain, and muscle recovery.

Myofascial Release

What is Myofascial release and trigger point therapy?

Myofascial release and trigger point therapy are styles frequently used within our massages. They can be very relieving for stubborn areas and “knots”. A trigger point is a tender point within a tight band of muscle. They can cause quite a bit of pain and even refer pain to other areas. Releasing them can be of great relief.

Lymphatic Drainage

When do we perform lymphatic drainage?

We most often have requests for lymphatic drainage after removal of lymph nodes after cancer. Lymphatic drainage can help provide relief for the swelling that can occur in limbs once the lymph nodes are removed. Lymphatic drainage should be done daily if required, so we will also teach you how to perform it at home. Top up treatments can then be done in clinic if any excess fluid builds up. We do not fit compression garments for lymphoedema at this stage.

This is a firm style of massage, aimed at helping pain, injuries and speed up healing. Your therapist will chat to you to work out what areas are contributing to the problem. Remedial massage and sports massage treatment can help with sporting injuries, postural problems, overuse tightness, cramps, arthritis, post-travelling stiffness and more.

Pregnancy Massage can be as firm or relaxing as you choose. Allow our therapists to soothe tired, over worked muscles or get in deeper for hip and leg pain. Massage can be very relieving for aches and pains around the hips, lower back, pelvis and in the legs during this time of change. We even have a pregnancy pillow, so you can lie face down. We will understand if you don’t want to get up again afterward! Learn more about why might you need a pregnancy physio?
